The gospel of Jesus Christ is meant not only to save us, but to empower us to a point where the law becomes irrelevant, not because it no longer applies, but because it no longer is the driving force behind our obedience. Yes, the law shows us how ungodly our natural inclination toward sin really is and that we are powerless to change that on our own. The law shows us that we need a Savior. But just as important is the idea that the law was meant to teach us what it looks like to love God and love others, a lesson most clearly demonstrated by Jesus Himself at the cross.
