So often, we’re tempted to think that God means well, and wants the best, but can’t really change things. So, we feel reluctant to pray with confidence. But when we ask for things that will further his plan to bring all things together under Christ, including helping us to become a fitting home for his Spirit and to know the unknowable love of Christ, we need to remember who we’re talking to. God is willing and able to do immeasurably more for us and in us than anyone could ever imagine, because he loves his ordinary churches with an immeasurably gigantic love.

Reflection
What do you think prompts Paul to pray with such humility and gratitude? Why are we sometimes reluctant to pray in desperation? What do these verses teach us about the resources of God? Review the things that Paul prays for and take some time to pray through these petitions for yourself, your family members who know Christ, your life group, and other people in your sphere of influence. Why is it important to mediate on the love of Christ? What are some things in your life that stir your affections for Christ? What are some things that rob you of your affections for Christ? What are some amazing things that you can begin asking God for today?
