What we see in the incarnation (birth), life, and death of Jesus is God taking initiative. The creed reminds us that He is not a passive God, sitting around waiting for us to get our act together. He is an active God, doing everything possible to win our hearts and draw us back to Him. God became a man to live the life that no man could live and die the death that no man could survive so that we might live forever.
