Christianity has confessed for a long time in song what Proverbs 8 has taught us. The Wisdom of God, who ordered the cosmos and can teach us the right path, took on flesh in Bethlehem. If we want to be wise in daily life—if we want to know how the world is supposed to work—then we must be in a relationship with Jesus. Wisdom (Jesus) brings to order the chaos created by our sin. We must simply trust in His ability to order it well.

Reflection
Is it surprising that Solomon wants his son to be attracted to and in essence “marry” wisdom? What does this point reemphasize about Wisdom’s nature? Consider the differences between what wisdom offers compared to what wisdom hates. Why would wisdom hate such things? How are wisdom’s rewards better than earthly riches? Consider Matthew 7:24-29 and think through some of the teachings of the Sermon on the Mount in light of Proverbs
