We all want assurances that our salvation is secure. The problem is that we seek those assurances in places that are not able to adequately provide them. God does not want us wandering through our faith journey wondering if we are saved. He wants us to live bold lives for Christ, living in obedience to His commands each and every day. Displaying the fruits of the Spirit and producing fruit for the kingdom is where we ultimately find the assurance of our salvation.

For further consideration:
Why is the temptation to try to earn our salvation through works so strong? Why do we sometimes find ourselves returning to fruitless attempts to win God’s favor through works even though we know better? In what elementary doctrines of the faith do you sometimes trust rather than resting in the righteousness secured for you through the finished work of Christ? Why can’t this warning be referring to true believers losing their salvation? Why can’t the warning be merely hypothetical? How can believers be confident that their salvation is secure? What are the marks of true conversion and genuine salvation? Are those marks evident in your life?
