Verse 20 gives us a great question to consider. Paraphrased, it says this, “Son, since you may legitimately enjoy the pleasures of a good wife’s love, why would you want to take a chance on missing out on that by getting involved in sexual sin that has the potential to mess up your whole life?” It’s a great question, but one that is lost on a world fails to acknowledge moral parameters on God’s gift to humanity.
Reflection
Solomon models warning and informing his child about sexual sin. How can you more effectively address sexual issues with your children? How can we as a church help? Why does Solomon use the illustration of a seductive woman? Isn’t that a backward, misogynistic, and overly negative generalization of women? What does Proverbs present as the first means of sexual temptation? How should that affect the way we view seemingly innocent interactions?
