There is a difference between the theology and the experience of a man taught by the Spirit. Theology can be very clear and right, but it is all in the head. When you deal with the pain of life, there is a deeper dimension, a dimension of compassion and Christlike empathy. We must authentically love the afflicted person. Christlike love opens the door of the human soul to receive the light of God’s Spirit.

Reflection
Think about your closest friends. Take a moment to consider what sort of friend you are being to them. Are you loving? Patient? Judgmental? Do you tend to preach when they’re going through tough times? Talk with your friends and learn how you can be a better friend in a time of need. Perhaps what they need most is simply your time, your prayers, and your love. Write a prayer (or simply say one in silence) inviting God to work on your mind and heart in those areas that need work. Be honest about your desires, your doubts, and your fears.
