God the Father has given Jesus Christ the Son a name greater than all names and the throne to a kingdom that has no end. All things have been created by the Son and through the Son—including angels—for the worship and service of the Son. We are confident that angels are agents of God’s throne sent out for the purpose of engaging in spiritual warfare in partnership with the church. Angels are remarkable, but they pale in comparison to the glory of the Redeemer, the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Jesus is better.

For further consideration:
What is the difference between the person of Christ and the work of Christ? What are some ways that Hebrews can help us incorporate both the person of Christ and the work of Christ into our gospel conversations? How does the first chapter of Hebrews help us answer the three most important gospel questions: Who is Jesus? What has He done? What is the significance for us? What are some of the ways that the portrait of angels presented in Hebrews differs from the portrait of angels presented in pop culture? How do angels serve the Son? How do they serve the church? What things in your life do you consider supreme? How does Christ’s superiority over all things change the way you view those things now? How should Christ’s supremacy affect the way you live your life day to day?
